On the Tele..and "I'm Somebody's Mom!"

Maybe I've become disinfranchised with what's on TV lately, or I've caught up on most of my shows that have gone on hiatus for the winter or Olympics or whatever reason they're off the air, but I have become ADDICTED to British TV.

Over the break and since, I've watched the following:

Still watching Downton in American time, so we're about 1/2 way through the season.

and some of this:

What can I say, I'm loving them. I don't know why they seem so much more complex and deeper than a lot of the American shows on TV right now. I have to give the edge to Luther for crime dramas. As a forever fan of Law and Order: SVU, it's slowly losing me while I just can't get enough of Luther. The characters are complex and so well written and acted. It's highly recommended by me!

Also, I had to wonder. For all my parent friends out there, do you ever have those moments where it just hits you that you yourself are not a child anymore and that you're someone's parent? It's so crazy, because even at  32 years old, I still get the passing (and very brief) feeling that I'm still just a kid. Like when I started to feel ill last night, I went into my son's room and grabbed a stuffed animal, because cuddling with it at night made me feel better. Or I sometimes get that "hurt feelings" feeling when someone says something to you the wrong way or when something makes you flash back to a moment in your childhood where you felt bad. For a moment you feel like a kid again. Then reality smacks you in the face and you realize "Oh, God, I'm responsible for 2 human beings! When did that happen?"

Always amazes me how time flies.....

Back in the Saddle

So, it's a new year's resolution that I start blogging again more frequently. Since I'm currently relaxing on vacation I figured it's the best time to start!!! We just enjoyed our first Disney Cruise this past weekend with my in-laws aboard the Disney Wonder. Our ports of call included Grand Cayman and Cozumel. I will be the first to say I was nervous about going on a cruise. I know I'm not the first parent to have visions of their children falling overboard into the sea or some band of pirates kidnapping our ship (rational, I know!) So I was skeptical at first. But I put my faith in Disney, as I often do, and believed we would have the best time ever. And we did. We even booked another cruise before leaving the ship. I wanted to stay onboard, it was THAT magical. Here's some photos from our adventure:

I hope you'll stick with me as I jump back into blogging about my crazy life with my family!!!

Where Have You Been?

I told myself when I got a blog that I needed to maintain it and not slack off. So what have I done over the last couple months? Not maintained my blog and slacked off. But I do have the excuse that I've been really trying to journal more, and I am happy to say that I am indeed journaling regularly. I am also --AHHH--- in the very early phases of ...writing a book. I know, you never knew I was an acutal writer, huh? Fooled you! I did a lot of writing in college and really enjoyed it. I'm venturing into the world of fiction writing for the first time, but I think that the storyline/thought process is going well. Let's see if I stick with it.

I'll hopefully be back in the next couple days with a REAL update, something fun. Something quirky....

Up 2...

A month! A month! I've been absent a month. Granted, I was in the "Most Magical Place on Earth!" for 9 days of that and it is holiday season, readers, so I've been shuttled to and fro entertaining and being entertained by the masses.

Here's what I've been doing, in visual form:

Journaling (the entire collection below -I'm on volume 3/9):

Taking the fam to the Most Magical Place on Earth:

Researching Bunk Beds for the Little Man's room makeover:

I stumbled onto this bad boy (Pinterest), which will eat up chunks of time like a hungry monster:

And finally, if you don't do anything else for the rest of the year, at least stop and take a listen to Sleeping at Last, which is a band I wonder how I lived without. They did a comprehensive collection of EP's of 3 songs/month to create a 36 song "Yearbook," each with their own artistic covers and the music is EXCELLENT. Life-changing, really.... Have a great pre-holidays break, friends! By the way, where's the snow, Wisconsin???

A Sabbatical, A Hiatus...or as the Locals Say, a Break...

Sorry, folks (if there are enough of you out there that I can use that word liberally), I kinda disappeared. I've been busy (excuses, excuses), but I've also put a lot of value in my quest to maintain the written word. I am a huge, huge journal keeper. I used to have those cheesy journals in middle schools, with the key, where I would talk about how much I crushed on boy X and how I wish boy Y would notice me. In my college and adult years, they've morphed into something more. They're genuinely time capsules, moments in time where you can look back and see exactly how you felt about something; see the emotion in the way you were writing, the quotes you listed, the song you were listening to.

When I first moved to Milwaukee in the fall of 2003, I bought a large, red bound journal. I thought at the time that I would just write and write and fill it. It's massive. I wrote for awhile, got bored and life happened and I found myself logging short updates on life (baby, marriage, etc) and not really exploring the human emotion that journaling sometimes helps emote. So, in a quest to get back into the swing of things, I purchased a three pack of black Moleskine journals and titled each of them (The Journey, Home and Time) In case I was struggling on a particular day or in a week to write an update, I could reflect on my thoughts on the subject at the time. It's been working brilliantly, I've maintained my inspired writing and I feel like I could title a thousand journals and still keep writing.

So, as much as I love to blog and as fast as it to type away, I don't want to disembark from my original journey to capture the little snapshots of life through a pen and paper.....but don't fret, I will remain on here with my musings. You just don't get to read my journals...
